Personal hiking tipps

Directly from the Sporthotel

Rübezahl-Alm (Ellmau)

Located above Ellmau, very easy to reach.
Take a leisurely walk to the alpine hut (approx. 1 hour, moderate ascent). Alternatively, take the Hartkaiser lift and hike from there along an easier path to the alpine hut.
Very popular hut with a large sun terrace, live music and traditional Tyrolean cuisine. Ideal for a leisurely stop. In winter, there is also an illuminated toboggan run.

Jägerhütte (Ellmau)

Located near the Rübezahl Alm, it is usually a little quieter. Either take the Hartkaiser cable car and walk for 15 minutes, or walk directly from the hotel in around 1.5 to 2 hours.
A cosy alpine hut with rustic charm, appreciated for its traditional cuisine and friendly atmosphere.

Gruttenhütte

(Going/Ellmau, high alpine, but easily accessible).
The Gruttenhütte is located at the foot of the Goinger Halt and is the highest mountain hut in the Wilder Kaiser range.
It may not be exactly a ‘walk in the park’, but it can be reached via a well-maintained, non-exposed hiking trail from the Wochenbrunn hiking car park (between Ellmau and Going) (approx. 1.5 - 2 hours' climb, approx. 500 metres of altitude difference). This is a feasible tour for leisure hikers who want to get a little more ‘mountain air’ but don't want any climbing passages. The reward: in any case, the spectacular view of the Kitzbühel Alps and the Inn Valley. Offers real hut character. A great destination where you feel like you've ‘been to the mountains’ in the evening.

Hintersteiner See-Gasthäuser (Scheffau)

Around picturesque Lake Hinterstein, considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Tyrol.
Take the hiking bus (Kaiserjet) or drive to the lake. There are several places to stop for refreshments around the lake (e.g. Seestüberl, Gasthof Bärnstatt), which can be combined with an easy circular walk around the shore (approx. 1 hour).
A Wonderful setting for a break, often with the opportunity to swim (in summer). Ideal for a relaxing half-day or full-day tour.

Bergrestaurant Brandstadl (Scheffau)

Right next to the Brandstadlbahn mountain station in Scheffau.
Easily accessible by gondola lift from Scheffau. A rather large restaurant with a panoramic terrace and the KaiserWelt adventure park right next door. Ideal for families and anyone who wants to stop for a bite to eat with a great view without any effort. Several easy panoramic hiking trails also start from here.

Stöffl Alm (Söll)

At the mountain station of the Söll gondola lift (gondola to the Hohe Salve).
Accessibility: Easily accessible by gondola from Söll (or from Ellmau by bus to Söll).
Located directly on the Hohe Salve, with a fantastic 360-degree view of over 70 three-thousand-metre peaks. Panoramic restaurants and easy walking trails around the mountain station offer many possibilities.
Huts and restaurants are known for their traditional hospitality. Good food and easy accessibility delight all leisure hikers who want to soak up the alpine landscape without breaking a sweat.
